2012 European Championship contractor discharged
The contractor working on the Lviv stadium in Kiev, Ukraine – one of the venues for the 2012 European Championship – has been dropped for not making enough progress.
The Associated Press reported that the Ukrainian deputy prime minister, Borys Kolesnikov discharged the Azovintex construction firm due to slow work.
The decision was made after UEFA president Michel Platini visited the site and declared that the contractor had “made no progress whatsoever”.
Ukraine-based Altcom has been chosen as a replacement, though Kolesnikov said that Azovintex would still carry out minor work. He said the stadium would be built by 2011.
