ACE withdraws arts centre funding
Arts Council England (ACE) East Midlands has decided to withdraw annual funding worth nearly £50,000 from a Lincolnshire arts centre despite an appeal from West Lindsey District Council (WLDC).
Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough now faces an uncertain future following the decision, although ACE East Midlands said that it would guarantee funding at the current levels until October. According to Peter Knott, director of arts and development at ACE East Midlands, the venue would benefit more from alternative forms of support, including the development of funding proposals for arts schemes through the Grants for Arts programme.
Knott said: "After considerable debate, the Regional Arts Council decided not to renew regular funding to Trinity Arts Centre within the regular funding programme but to offer alternative forms of support. "We believe this should ensure the continued development of Trinity Arts Centre and in particular its artistic programme, with support from us and West Lindsey."
