Derbyshire Dales leisure centre scheme still on track
A £12m leisure centre scheme in the Derbyshire Dales is still on course to open in 2011, despite local fears that falling land values would scupper the project.
The Matlock Mercury claimed that there was growing concern that as the land values of sites that would be sold by Derbyshire Dales District Council to fund the project fell, the scheme would be delayed.
However, the council’s head of finance, Phil Colledge, told the newspaper that despite restructuring its five-year spending programme, there was no change in the completion date.
The leisure centre, to be built on The Dimple in Matlock, will boast a main sports hall for badminton, hockey, volleyball, five-a-side football, netball, gymnastics and cricket nets; a secondary sports hall for aerobics, dance, martial arts, table tennis and yoga; a fitness suite and an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool.
The site will also include a café, while outside there will be BMX trails and a multiuse games area in addition to the existing football pitches.
