English Heritage takes over historic lighthouse
English Heritage has taken over the custodianship of the historic Low Lighthouse at Hurst Castle in Lymington, Hampshire.
Tracey Wahdan, English Heritage visitor operations director for the South East, said the lighthouse will be opened up for visitors. "The transfer of guardianship to English Heritage will ensure that the Low Lighthouse and its history can be enjoyed by future generations of visitors to Hurst Castle," she said. "We will be taking over the day to day maintenance of the structure which further adds to what is already an exciting day out at Hurst Castle."
The lighthouse was last used to safeguard shipping in the Solent in 1997 and is now protected as a Scheduled Monument.
