Entertainment complex planned for Cairo
A new entertainment complex, with themed waterparks, a convention centre and a golf course, is being planned for Cairo, Egypt.
The project is a joint venture between Walt Disney Company Apogee Attractions and Avatar Management and will also boast a grand prix-style racetrack, five-star hotels and the Mubarak Convention Centre & Museum.
Apogee was responsible for the planning and development of Disney's Epcot Centre in Florida.
Erich Hauser, President and CEO of Avatar Management, said: "The country's 80 million inhabitants and its burgeoning middle class of consumers are creating a strong demand for world class quality entertainment in this young vibrant economy.
"We are very excited at the future outlook of Egypt's economy and its role as the leading influence in the Middle East. Egypt is moving towards a more market-oriented economy. Currently, GDP is rising sharply by 7 per cent per annum.
"For me personally this will be a dream made real. My father, the late Dwight Hauser won several awards including the Academy Award for Walt Disney and helped to create the Disney Brand."
