FA to abstain in FIFA presidency vote
Football Association (FA) chair David Bernstein has announced that the national governing body will be abstaining in the forthcoming vote for the presidency of world body FIFA.
In a statement, Bernstein said the FA's board had agreed to the proposal due to "a range of issues both recent and current" that prevented it from supporting either candidate. Incumbent president Sepp Blatter is competing against challenger Mohamed Bin Hammam for the presidency, with the vote due to take place on 1 June.
Bernstein said: "We are determined to play an active and influential role through our representation within both UEFA and FIFA. "We will continue to work hard to bring about any changes we think would benefit all of international football."
