Jubilee reopening marked with girls' football
The Jubilee Playing Fields on Mintsfeet industrial estate, in Kendal, Cumbria have been officially reopened with a girls' football festival.
A £100,000 improvement project has been undertaken on the natural turf pitches at the Jubilee, involving the installation of a state of the art drainage system, levelling and improving the quality of the surface.
Richard Foster, South Lakeland District Council's sport and recreation manager, said: "The Jubilee has been used for football for many years and the idea of the council closing the facility while developing it was met with an awful lot of resistance and criticism.
"However, we've got through the problems and have provided a quality facility for local football clubs, which I hope they will be proud of."
The scheme was funded by South Lakeland District Council and the Football Foundation.
