Most hotel guests ‘help themselves’
A study by insurer More Than claims that three million Britons have inflicted damage on property during a hotel visit and around 80 per cent have taken something from their room as a memento of their stay.
The report divides Britons into two categories – ‘Bulls’ and ‘Butterflies’ – and reveals that one in six of all Britons admit to being less careful of the fixtures and fittings in a hotel room than in their own home.
The most popular item to make its way out of the room in the bags of ‘Bulls’ – guests who, among other damage, are responsible for destroying more than 53,700 hotel doors in the last five years – are toiletries, stationery and towels.
Meanwhile, ‘Butterflies’ leave little evidence of their stay – in some cases even making their own beds and throwing away rubbish as they leave.
