New director for rail museum

Steve Davies has been appointed the new director of the National Railway Museum (NRM).
Davies will join the NRM from his position as director of the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) in Manchester.
During his time at Manchester he oversaw the development of a new £7m building and gallery space for MOSI.
Davies's passion for railways was demonstrated while serving the Army in Sierra Leone where he transformed a warehouse of decaying railway artefacts, including locomotives and carriages from the Queen's train used during her visit in 1961, into a new museum.
He used his free time to establish the Sierra Leone National Railway Museum, initially paying staff wages from his own pocket. The Museum was officially opened in 2005 by the President of Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom's National Railway Museum Director at the time, Andrew Scott.
Scott, whom Davies replaces, announced his retirement as NRM Director earlier this year after nearly 15 years with the National Railway Museum.
