The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) is updating its business plan for the next two years of operation.

The plan aims to give a balanced approach to its activities and resources, but it remains an overriding priority that the business of REPs should concentrate on operating an effective, quality-driven process for those who work in the fitness industry.

The Register must be relevant and meaningful to its members and especially to support members and operators through a programme of constant contact to help raise standards and to increase professionalism in the industry.

Continuing professional development will become an increasingly important aspect of the Register’s operations. Performance targets for processing registrations, and answering enquiries will be stated together with widening services to members through the Website. There will be an enhanced members’ directory.

Research will be undertaken into members’ attitudes and expectations and to establish quality management procedures. An interactive version of the REPs career and qualification chart will be developed which will improve information about different levels and categories of registration with further information on approved training providers. Findings from the Working in Fitness survey will link pay and conditions to levels of registration.

The REPs public awareness campaign and specific promotions in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will help towards raising the profile of the Register and to increase overall numbers.
