PlayFootball reports continued growth
PlayFootball, the operator of small-sided football venues across the UK, has defied the economic downturn during 2008 after reporting a 56 per cent increase in pre-tax profits.
The business, which is owned by the Sports and Leisure Group (SLG), now attracts more than four million players and has opened three new centres – York, Bury and Southend – in the past 12 months, increasing its portfolio to 11 sites. Barry Hunter, SLG's chief executive, said: "Small-sided football is continuing to buck wider market trends, with demand increasing as more young people are forming teams and participating in weekly competitions."
PlayFootball, which also reported an increase in yearly turnover from £2.8m to £4m, intends to increase its estate to more than 30 centres over the next five years, which it says is necessary to meet consumer demand.
