REPs Registrar sets out plans for the future at LIW
Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) Registrar Jean-Ann Marnoch set out her plans for the future of the Register during a presentation at the Skills Active Training Providers forum at Leisure Industry Week in Birmingham last week.
Speaking to an audience of training providers, awarding bodies and employers she outlined the need for clarity in fitness qualifications and career structures to increase understanding and respect of the sector with outside and related industries.
"We can make a difference to the 'lifestyle' diseases that much of the world now faces: such as diabetes II, obesity and cardiovascular disease," said Marnoch, "but current understanding and acceptance of the industry does not allow us to reach our full health-enhancing potential.
"I would like to see the Register increase its work with the medical profession, governments and the industry's stakeholders to see the health and fitness professionals that are our members play a greater role in secondary health care."
She went on to outline how she wants to create a desire for members to be recognised as professionals rather than having membership forced upon them, as well as increasing the numbers of teachers on the Register and its geographical spread across the UK.
Working internationally is also key to raise the profile of health and fitness professionals worldwide she said.
Meanwhile, the rest of the REPs team were busy at LIW manning the joint REPs, Skills Active, FIA stand, meeting members and answering queries as well as plying visitors with tea and biscuits.
