RFL reports 'flourishing' grassroots game
New figures published by the Rugby Football League (RFL) have show an increase of more than 30,000 in the number of adults participating at grassroots level.
Official RFL research also found that the total number of secondary school pupils taking part in the game grew by more than 25,000 last year. RFL director of participation and strategic partnerships David Gent said: "As well as a big increase in the number of people playing Rugby League we have also seen the sport successfully expand into new areas.
"Last year, for example, the South West region appointed its first two community coaches and organised the first ever schools tournaments in Swindon, Bristol, Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth."
