Sentosa appoints new chief executive
Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) which manages Sentosa Island, Singapore, has a new Chief Executive, Darrell Metzger.
Metzger will oversee the rejuvenation of Sentosa, which has been given a US $546 million budget by the Singapore government. Private investment will bring the total budget for development on the island to US $1.6 billion.
Existing attractions on the island are set for an overhaul. Underwater World aquarium is to undergo a US $55 million renovation. Sentosa Cove private Ltd, a subsidiary of SDC, has reclaimed land on Sentosa, and is currently overseeing the management and sale of 2,600 apartments, a marina and moorings for privately owned boats.
Prior to joining SDC, Metzger was president of Promare Ltd, a retailer and manufacturer of Hawaiian apparel. He was also the Chairman of the Hawaii Attractions Association. He is currently a Director of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).
His experience in the attractions industry includes implementing a five-year plan to reorganise and rejuvenate Ocean Park in Hong Kong, and an involvement in the start up of Tokyo's Disneyland.
An announcement is expected soon, about how the island is to be developed.
