Snowsport GB put into administration
Snowsport GB, the representative organisation for British athletes competing in Winter Olympic sports, has confirmed it has lost its battle against the threat of administration.
The British Ski and Snowboard Federation (BSSF), which operates under the Snowsport GB name, announced last month that it required a £200,000 cash injection in order to meet a funding shortfall it claimed was "caused by the recession". A dormant subsidiary of the British Olympic Association (BOA) - Team GB Ltd - will act as the national governing body for ski and snowboarding under the British Ski and Snowboarding (BSS) name as part of contingency measures.
The BOA has also confirmed that it will provide logistical support for athletes and coaches comprising Team GB at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics in Canada, which gets underway next week (12 February). BOA chair Colin Moynihan said: "The BOA's role is to provide services for its member sports and represent the interests of the athletes. It is with great regret that one of our governing bodies has gone into administration, particularly at such a critical time for our Olympic team.
"The National Olympic Committee has immediately sought to implement a solution to this dilemma. The athletes and coaches can rest assured that we will work around the clock to support them and help ensure that those involved in the sport can find the best possible structure for it going forward."
