Sutton facilities in line for refurbishment
Sutton Council has announced that two facilities - Cheam Leisure Centre and Sutton Arena, south west London - are to benefit from a joint £950,000 refurbishment programme.
Everyone Active - the trading name of Sports and Leisure Management (SLM) - is funding the schemes, which are due to commence within the next few weeks. Cheam Leisure Centre will receive a £600,000 makeover, which will see a complete overhaul of changing facilities; a new gym entrance; and a refreshed reception area.
The remaining £350,000 will be invested in the extension of the current gym at Sutton Arena, with both schemes to be completed ahead of an £11m rebuild of Westcroft Leisure Centre. Sutton Council executive member for community safety, leisure and libraries Graham Tope said: "The centres will be given a major upgrade at absolutely no expense to the council or residents.
"It's a large sum of money which, in the current financial climate, the council just doesn't have, so we're grateful that Everyone Active can see the benefit of investing in Cheam Leisure Centre and Sutton Arena."
