Thai carnival theme park slated for 2020 opening in Phuket
Thailand's Phuket FantaSea has announced plans to open a Thai Carnival theme park.
Carnival Magic, which is due to open in early 2020, is expected to attract more than one million tourists per year, generating annual revenue of THB1.5bn (US$50m, €44.8m, £38.6m). Development of the 40-acre site, which is adjacent to Phuket FantaSea at Kamala Beach, has cost more than THB5bn (US$170m, €152m, £131m).
The colourful attraction will have four main zones:
Carnival FunFair – a street fair offering themed shopping arcades, boutique eateries and bars, street performers, games and kids' rides.
Bird of Paradise Restaurant – a gala buffet restaurant for more than 3,000 diners – and River of Bliss Restaurant, which is a more opulent dining experience, inspired by the Loy Kratong festival. Here guests enter via "Happiness Falls", ascending seven metres using a "mystical barge".
River Palace Theater – a parade stadium for 2,000 guests, with a 70-metre long and 22-metre wide performance stage; the River Palace parade, featuring aerial ballet, animatronics, gigantic creatures and a cast and crew of 300, will highlight the best of Thai culture.
Kingdom of Lights – designed to be an "enchanting world of sparkling gardens and breathtaking landscape", decorated with over 40 million lights, and with a "River of Lights" best observed by crossing a "dazzling lake-spanning bridge" to get a panoramic view of the illuminations.
