Water sports centre plan for dangerous quarry
A flooded, disused quarry in North Yorkshire, with a track record of fatal accidents, could be turned into a water sports centre.
The Blue Lagoon at Womersley has become notorious, with two deaths in the past 10 years, and an ongoing problem with vandalism, fly-tipping and illegal, unsupervised use of the water by jet skiers.
Now plans are being submitted to transform the quarry into a water sports centre, along with a nature education site and conservation area.
A local councillor admitted to being very interested in the proposals, adding that it was fortunate that more fatalities had not occurred.
