Work to begin on £8m Chesterfield leisure centre
Work on the £8m Healthy Living Centre in Stavely, Chesterfield, will begin in January next year.
The facility will replace Middlecroft Leisure Centre – which was closed this summer – and will feature a 25m swimming pool with adjustable floor, a 150-station fitness suite, a children’s exercise area, a health spa, dance studios, a climbing wall and a coffee bar.
Ray Russell, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, which is funding the project, said: “We are delighted that we are able to meet our promise to the community in providing leisure facilities and that a timetable has now been worked out for the project to finally get underway.”
The 50-week building project is being undertaken by Yorkshire-based Caddick Construction and the centre is scheduled to open in March 2008. Details: www.chesterfieldbc.gov.uk
