Liverpool John Moores University transforms research with cutting-edge technology from Wattbike

09 Jul 2024
Liverpool John Moores University's (LJMU) Department of Sport and Exercise Science has partnered with Wattbike / Wattbike / Liverpool John Moores University
Liverpool John Moores University's (LJMU) Department of Sport and Exercise Science has partnered with Wattbike to revolutionise research capabilities through the introduction of eight Wattbike Nucleus and four Wattbike AtomX models into its performance laboratories.

The University exemplifies research excellence by utilising cutting-edge equipment to bolster its studies. Recently ranked among the world's top Universities for Sport and Exercise Science by the QS World University Rankings, LJMU runs innovative programs from state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

This collaboration between higher education and sports performance technology, with the introduction of Wattbikes to expand teaching opportunities and research possibilities, offers students valuable hands-on experience with equipment which revolutionises the performance laboratories and empower students to excel.

Tom Crampton, Head of Commercial, Wattbike adds: “At Wattbike, we recognise the crucial need for simple solutions to gather objective data for research projects. In the fast-paced realm of sports and exercise science, staying at the forefront necessitates superior equipment that can meet the rigorous demands of tests and Universities, as hubs of knowledge and innovation, strive to push their research to new heights.”

By integrating Wattbikes into the performance facilities on campus, students and staff can benefit from the precision of measurement, real-time feedback, customisable workouts, equipment that can seamlessly integrate into other laboratory equipment and software systems and indoor bikes that are built to be durable, withstanding the intense usage required in performance testing and research.

Gemma Miller PhD, Lecturer in Cardiovascular Exercise Physiology, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University explains: “We are extremely excited to have received delivery of new Wattbikes in our Sport and Exercise Science department. These bikes allow us to add to our existing Wattbikes and expand our ability to deliver high-quality, hands-on teaching with world-leading equipment.”

“We chose to purchase from Wattbike as they are known to be one of the world leaders in the cycle ergometer industry and these ergometers are routinely used in applied practice. We use our Wattbikes when teaching students about exercise intensity and training. The ability to fix the workload on the new AtomX has enabled us to expand our use of the bikes and we can now also use them for graded exercise tests. We also use these for our applied work and research, our riders love the design of the bike, allowing them to feel like they are riding in a similar position to when out on the road.”

The partnership between Universities and Wattbike offers an unprecedented opportunity for innovation in sports and exercise science research. With the cutting-edge AtomX and Nucleus models, academic institutions can elevate their performance labs to new levels, unveiling insights that shape the future of athletic performance and human potential.

Until 31st August, Wattbike will be offering a summer special whereby Universities and Colleges can take advantage of exclusive deals on Wattbike equipment, with prices ranging from £5000 to £35,000, catering to various budgets.

Testimonial
“Our approach when it comes to gym design and equipment is to always seek the best-in-class options for our members. We want our members to use the best treadmills, the best Olympic lifting bars, the best strength machines and the best bikes on the market.

“With Wattbike’s experience and exposure in the highest levels of elite sport all over the World, it was an obvious choice for us to have the Wattbikes as our bike of choice for Third Space.”

– Rob Beale, fitness director, Third Space
Testimonial
“Wattbikes are simply the best. There’s a reason they are the bike of choice for so many top athletes and professional teams and for us, the fact that they are durable and powerless means they can be easily moved around our athletics performance training area where we have created an area for all powerless and functional equipment, allowing the members complete flexibility over how they train.”

– Gareth Jones, COO, Wellfit.
Testimonial
“Nothing comes close to Wattbike when it comes to accurate testing, immediate feedback, comfort, durability and the real-ride feel.

“The Wattbike proves immensely beneficial for athletes, particularly in rehabilitation or off-feet conditioning. It allows athletes to minimise leg impact while still focusing on enhancing their cardiovascular ability.”

– Jordan Demetriou, head of performance, Mykonos Performance
