Nuffield City Fitness and Wellbeing Centre, in the heart of London, has been running classes in a way normally found in smaller, independent gyms – and with great success.

"Our GRAVITY group classes on the Total Gym GTS are perfect for a multitude of fitness goals, from cardio endurance and strength to sports specific exercise and rehabilitation," says Luigi Borrelli, Group Activity Manager at the club. "We offer five sessions per week with up to five participants in each class but unlike other classes, the same equipment is perfect for one-on-one personal training. Then consider the capability of allowing users to create their own group sessions and the kit starts to work as hard as a revenue stream as it does as a training tool."

A one-on-one PT session generates around £50-£60, while the same person-hour can bring in twice as much or more when the class is expanded because there are more users covering the cost of the session. Members still benefit from individual attention from the trainer and the flexibility of booking their own sessions but the class becomes more affordable as class numbers and club revenue increase.

GRAVITY Training uses Total Gym equipment to perform over 200 exercises at variable resistances, targeting every muscle in the body. Cables harness anywhere between 5 - 59 per cent of the user's bodyweight via the moving glideboard that is set incrementally to suit any fitness level and optimise specific movements. A different grip, change of body position or resistance is all it takes to move between exercises so down time is kept at a minimum.
